Robbie Hunter Elected SBCTC President

October 22, 2012  - 61st Convention - Robbie Hunter, formerly executive secretary of the Los Angeles/Orange County Building Trades Council, was unanimously elected SBCTC President at the 61st Convention in Santa Monica this weekend. Robbie succeeds Bob Balgenorth, who is retiring after 19 years at the SBCTC helm. Last week, the SBCTC Executive Board designated Bob as President Emeritus, and directed him to work through the end of the year to help with Robbie’s transition.

Also selected to new offices at the convention this week were Secretary-Treasurer Tom Baca, Boilermakers International Vice-President; Northern California Vice-President Greg Feere, Contra Costa Building Trades Council Chief Executive Officer; and Southern California Vice-President Sid Stolper, Southern California Pipe Trades District Council 16 Business Manager.

They succeed Secretary-Treasurer Jim Kellogg, Northern California Vice-President Neil Struthers, and Southern California Vice-President Brad Plueger, whose good work was gratefully acknowledged by the SBCTC.

“Bob has been a tough, tenacious leader for working men and women,” said Hunter. “I’m honored and excited to succeed him and move our cause forward. Let’s get to work.” A native of Belfast, Ireland, Hunter is an iron worker and former President of Iron Workers Local 433.
