PLA Finalized for New 49ers Stadium

February 28, 2012 - The San Francisco 49ers today announced that the team has entered into a PLA with contractor Turner/Devcon and the Santa Clara and San Benito Building Trades Council for the construction of the teams new stadium in Santa Clara.

Groundbreaking on construction of the 68,500-seat stadium is scheduled for this spring. The project will employ thousands of local workers and cost over $1 billion.

49ers Chief Financial Officer Larry McNeil called the PLA with the Building Trades essential for ensuring the highest quality construction. “Everything we do within the 49ers is based on quality and performance.  We have very high expectations for the new stadium, and this PLA gives us confidence that we will have a quality job that will come in on time and on budget.”

Santa Clara San Benito BTC Executive Director Neil Struthers said the PLA provides the 49ers with a risk management tool for a project that the team wants completed to the highest standards and on time.  “Any time an owner is concerned about quality, cost and in this case, the length of time to complete a project, a PLA becomes a likely tool that we would consider entering into with the right owner,” he said.

The 49ers’ decision to use a PLA on such a high-profile, time-sensitive project is compelling proof that PLAs must work.
