PLAs on Three New Power Plants to Bring Thousands of Building Trades Jobs

November 3, 2011 - The State Building and Construction Trades Council has entered into PLAs for the construction of three new power plants, projects that mean thousands of good jobs for Building Trades workers.

The Pio Pico Energy Center in San Diego County is a 300-megawatt gas-fired project in San Diego, that will cost $400 million and result in 600,000 hours of construction. The PLA for this project is with Kiewit Power Constructors.

The Wild Horse Geothermal Project and the Buckeye Geothermal Facility are both 49-megawatt geothermal projects based in Sonoma County.  Each will cost about $80 million and each will bring 400,000 hours of construction.  These PLAs are with Calpine.

The PLAs will benefit workers, consumers, and the regional economies.
