Three Big Victories For San Bernardino/Riverside BTC
March 17, 2010 - Yesterday proved to be a spectacular day for the San Bernardino/Riverside County Building Trades Council, scoring important victories before the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, the Riverside Community College District, and the San Bernardino City Unified School District.
Riverside County Board of Supervisors
By a 4-1 vote, the board defeated a proposed ordinance to permanently ban the use of PLAs on county construction projects.
Riverside Community College District
The district's Board of Trustees approved a five-year, $200 million dollar PLA for the construction of college facilities with Measure C funds.
San Bernardino City Unified School District
Despite a hostile staff report, seemingly drafted directly from anti-union CFEC talking points, the district's trustees voted unanimously against the report's recommendations, and in favor of moving forward with consideration of PLAs for future construction projects. Inland Congregations United for Change strongly supported PLAs in the district.
Strong advocacy by members of the San Bernardino/Riverside BTC and the San Bernardino Labor Council were instrumental in the victories.
Congratulations on a great day for the working people of the Inland Empire!
