SBCTC Files Amicus Brief
To Protect Labor Law Compliance!

The State Building and Construction Trades Council of California filed an amicus brief in the California Court of Appeals, 4th District to help fight an attack by non-union contractors on labor law compliance.

In the case of Valenzuela Engineering, Inc. v. Carpenters-Contractors Cooperation Committee, et al., a non-union contractor has challenged the right of unions and joint-labor management committees to monitor employer's compliance with wage-and-hour laws. The contractor, Valenzuela Engineering, claims that union investigators must be licensed under California's Business and Professions Code dealing with private investigators. The SBCTC has joined the Operating Engineers Local 12, California State Pipe Trades JAC, the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 159 JATC, Bill Lockyer, California Attorney General and Steve Smith, Director of the Department of Industrial Relations in filing amicus briefs to fight this new attack on labor law compliance and enforcement.
