IMPORTANT NOTICE

The built project was funded by the California’s Tobacco Tax Fund (Proposition 99) from 1999-2007, and in that time, developed numerous resources about cessation and prevention of tobacco use by construction and blue collar workers.  Many of these materials are still available in hard copy through the Tobacco Education Clearinghouse of California (TECC):  www.tobaccofreecatalog.org  (search for “union”).

We are pleased to have received funding from Pfizer to update the website and select materials.  Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

BUILT Website for May 2005 http://roswell.tobaccodocuments.org/hall_of_shame.htm - Our heroes die too soon.

Construction workers often take chances they shouldn’t. It may be due to a sense of invulnerability. However, when it comes to tobacco related disease not even our most cherished heroes are invulnerable. Peter Jennings recent revelation that he has lung cancer was a reminder that cancer or heart disease doesn’t care about fame or status. http://roswell.tobaccodocuments.org/hall_of_shame.htm is a list of many of the celebrities whose lives and careers were cut short by tobacco. From Humphrey Bogart to John Wayne tobacco has shown no mercy.
