The built project was funded by the California’s Tobacco Tax Fund (Proposition 99) from 1999-2007, and in that time, developed numerous resources about cessation and prevention of tobacco use by construction and blue collar workers.  Many of these materials are still available in hard copy through the Tobacco Education Clearinghouse of California (TECC):  (search for “union”).

We are pleased to have received funding from Pfizer to update the website and select materials.  Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Cigarette Papers Wall of History -

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. George Santayana

Union workers are proud of their history. Labor history shows us how far we've come while reminding us of what things could be like if we don't keep fighting. And, as current events illustrate, unions will have to continue fighting battles for workers rights, wages and safety.

The battle against tobacco companies and their marketing of a product that kills has its own history. It is a history of health discoveries followed by tobacco industry lies and deception. shows that history. From 1950 to 2002 the battle is documented with links to research papers and Surgeon Generals' Reports as well as documents from the tobacco industry itself.

This website is documentation of what works and what doesn't work in the struggle for a healthier workplace. It also reminds us of the tactics the tobacco industry uses. History is a continuing story, what has been won could be lost. Knowing our history prepares us for our future.
